Army National Guard Benefits

When you join the Army National Guard, you earn a competitive salary for your part time service. You are additionally eligible to receive other compensations and benefits such as enlistment bonuses, reenlistment bonuses, college funding and incentive pay. In addition to earning a monthly Army National Guard paycheck, you may qualify for an Enlistment Bonus. The Army National Guard offers over 300 different job skills. In addition to the pay you will receive for weekend drills and annual training, some Guard members are eligible for additional "special duty pay." This could be for aviation duty, hazardous duty, like airborne, or it could just be an affiliation bonus.

Money for College
Through the Montgomery GI Bill and Tuition Assistance, the Army National Guard can help you pay for college. You are also eligible to pursue college and university independent study courses through the Guard.

Retirement
A decision to remain with the Army National Guard will be well rewarded with unique retirement benefits, which include Military Exchange and Commissary privileges, certain medical benefits, space available military air travel, and life insurance. Of course these benefits are in addition to your monthly retirement pay or pension, some of which is exempt from federal taxes.

Life Insurance
When it comes to life insurance, the Guard has got you covered. The Serviceman's Group Life Insurance option is by far one of the most affordable life insurance policies available. NEW: Group life coverage now available for your spouse up to $100,000.

KANSAS STATE BENEFITS
Compensation for State Active Duty
Pay and Allowances: Minimum rate is E-6 with six years.

Up to 100% of tuition and fees based on funding. Applies after FTA is used. May combine with GI Bill. Cannot be used for graduate or professional degrees. Must be enlisted KS ARNG or ANG members, have less that 15 years service and be a KS resident. Additional service obligation applies.
Medical Benefits
Guardmember on State AD in excess of 30 days may be reimbursed for premiums paid for civilian health care insurance. Repayment is limited to premiums paid under state employee group health insurance program.
Injury/Death Benefits
In state service: Permanent disabled- $120/month plus 12.5% base pay; Surviving spouse-same plus $43- $77 per child/month. Children get free tuition at state college; up to $500 funeral expenses.
Reimbursement
State reimburses SGLI premiums for members while serving in a combat zone.
Group Insurance
KS NGA offers Guard- member: Up to $50,000. $25,000 for spouse for $8.67/mo; $10,000 each dependent for $6.66/mo. Cancer coverage for Guardmembers, $6.00/mo., $16.00/mo for family coverage. Note: NGAK offers a free $10,000 policy to all new members for one year. Option to renew at end of one year at rates stated.
Miscellaneous
KSNG license plate for any number of vehicles owned at regular rates. State employees get 12 days paid military leave/year. Not subject to tort claims action while on State AD. Free hunting and fishing license.
